What is your interpretation of Andy Goldsworthy's work- do you like it? What do you think he is trying yo say or accomplish in this?
My interpretation of his work is that he is just trying to make something to make nature more beautiful. It seems to me that he is trying to just make something sort of nice to look at for a small period of time. I don't really like it at all. I think that it is pointless to create something that is going to be gone soon because of nature. He creates things that don't last very long and I think it is dumb. He creates things that are washed away, or they fall apart. He puts a lot of time and effort into making his art pieces and they are just gone after a small amount of time. It seems to me, that he is just wasting his time making the artwork he is making because they just disappear. People can see the photographs he takes, but thats not the same as seeing them in person.
Why, specifically, do you connect or NOT connect with his work?
I don't connect with all of his work because I disagree with it. I also don't think that some of his artwork is very good or creative. He is just throwing random things from nature together. I think that he puts way to much time and effort into things that are just going to be gone soon. I also don't connect with some of his work because he sounds very weird to me. He talks about connecting with each rock in a special way and his work is not being destroyed by the sea it's being given to the sea. Although, he could just really be into creating his artwork. However, his photographs are good and I do connect with those. He takes photographs of his artwork; and they are good but you can't go and see the artwork in person because it is gone.
What inspiration for your own work can you gain from Mr. Goldsworthy's style, materials, work ethic, ideas?
I can gain a lot of inspiration from Andy Goldsworthy's work. He has a very unique style and that's how I want my artwork to be. I want my artwork to be one of a kind, I don't want anyone else to have anything like it. I don't really like the materials he's using. I probably wouldn't use them. However, I would use nature as subjects. I wouldnt really want to create a rock sculpture and have it washed away like he did, but I would possibly like to use the rocks in one of my pieces of art.I think that Mr. Goldsworthy has a very strong work ethic. I admire that about him. Even if his artwork falls apart he keeps trying to build it. And he knows that his work is going to be gone but, he creates it anyways. I wish that I had that strong of a work ethic.
I think that his ideas are a little bit weird. I dont really understand why he wants to make things that are just going to be washed away by nature. But, he loves creating that kind of art. I don't think that I can gain any inspiration from his ideas.
